About the calculator
Om kalkylatorn
The Electrification Calculator is an interactive tool that lets you explore how different combinations of energy sources affect Sweden's electricity costs and CO₂ emissions - from 2026 to 2050.
The tool is built on publicly available lifecycle CO₂ and LCOE (levelised cost of energy) data for nuclear, hydro, wind, solar, biomass, natural gas, and coal. It is intended to give a quick, intuitive feel for the trade-offs between climate impact and cost - not to replace deeper system analyses.
Assumptions & limitations
- Costs are given in SEK per MWh based on approximate LCOE ranges.
- CO₂ values are lifecycle-based and include manufacturing of plants.
- Demand growth is modelled linearly from ~160 TWh (2026) to ~390 TWh (2050).
- Grid balancing, capacity factors, and system costs are simplified.
Who built it?
The calculator was built by Filip Jansson at IWM Consulting Sweden as a side project to make the energy debate more accessible and fact-based.
